Good to G
o, The ABC's of Death and Dying
Reviewed by Melinda Cianos

As a member of the National Association of Baby Boomer Women, Good to Go was reviewed by the association and appears on their site.

Faced with questions concerning the death of a close friend or relative, one may have trouble discerning where to turn. Sometimes emotions take over making it difficult to reach out to the right people for answers. Author Jo Myers writes to soothe the confusion and turmoil that often accompanies the loss of someone close to us with her own brand of practical knowledge and humor. Granted, it may be difficult to see the lighter side of heavy issues like writing a eulogy, funeral preparation and cremation, but Myers makes a gallant attempt at removing the unpleasantness surrounding such issues with clarity and wit.

Jo shares practical stories surrounding the death and dying of family and friends which are eye-opening. She offers a wisely chosen title for each letter of the alphabet which allows you to jump around the book and read the topics of most interest to you. Helpful tips written by therapists, funeral directors, physicians, etc. are highlighted throughout.

This is excellent material to pore over before one is in the position of making crucial decisions concerning the death of a loved one; the material will be easier to digest and appreciated while one is somewhat removed from what is usually a highly- charged, emotional event. If you are facing the loss of our Greatest Generation, and/or want to be thoughtful of your loved ones by planning ahead for your end of life, I highly recommend this book. I've never seen anything like it.

Good To Go
Rachelle Disbennett-Lee, Live the Day Radio

If you missed last Sundays show (Jan. 6, 2008) you missed one of the best shows (in my humble opinion) that Christen and I have done. It was so funny and we had a Live the Day first, our guest sang a song. It was really great.

Who knew we could have so much fun talking about death and dying. Yep that is right. Our guest was Jo Myers author of the soon to be best selling book (I am predicting that) Good To Go - The ABC's of Death and Dying. If you or someone you know is going to die you need this book. I only wish I had it when my parents died in 2005. Not only is the book an interesting read, Jo tells the story of how her family handled the death of her parents and she tells the story of a good friend and her death. Interspersed with the stories are great tips, facts and things you need to know so you will be Good to Go! Read the BOOK! My favorite quote from the book is "If you ain't from the womb get out of the room."

I must say I did make a little foo pa on the show. In the heat of the moment I mentioned the fact that after my mom died, my dad died seven months before her, I had mentioned to my sister that I would like to have the quilt made by my great grandmother. My sister said back to me, "I am taking the quilt, you already got all the good stuff." Who knows what she meant by that, and she doesn't remember saying it (she has an amazing convenient memory), however that was really the only tense moment we had during the death of our parents, however my sister didn't care much for me saying it on the air! And she told me about it. She said she was going to send me half of the quilt, the back half! Oh got to love family!

If you missed the show or just want to hear it again go to Live the Day Radio and check out Jo's page where you will find out more about the book and be able to listen to the show.

Dying green
Bruce Van Dyke, Reno News-Review

I hadn’t heard of this (heads up, shameless plug on the way) until I read something written by an old radio partner of mine, Jo Myers. She’s penned an informative and handy book called Good to Go: the ABCs of Death and Dying, a most helpful guide for anyone who must deal with all the planning and details surrounding death or an impending death.

In her book, Jo mentions Joe Sehee and the Green Burial Council. The GBC is putting forth a simple concept: burial in a biodegradable casket, or even just a blanket or shroud. That way, the body goes in the ground as more of an offering than a time capsule. “Here ya go, Earth, I’m done with all this carbon and stuff. Thanks.”

GOOD TO GO
Norm Clarke, Las Vegas Review-Journal

A former Denver radio deejay, Jo Myers, was among convention goers Tuesday. She loaded her car with copies of her new book, "Good to Go: The ABC's of Death and Dying," and drove to Las Vegas to pitch her product (www.goodtogothe book.com).

Her chapter titles reflect the humor resonating through the industry of the dearly departed: Chapter B is "Bones of Contention," which has to do with family issues that inevitably arise. Chapter V deals with surviving pets, hence the title: "It Takes a Veterinarian and a Village."

Cremated remains, she told me, are now known as "cremains."

Denver radio vet Jo Myers takes on death and dying — and laughs too
Bill Husted, The DenverPost

Jo Myers, who spent 24 years on Denver radio until she quit KOSI’s morning show last year, has written “Good To Go: The Ultimate Planning Guide for Baby Boomers & Their Parents.”

It’s all about death and how to prepare for it.

And it’s funny - sometimes.

Myers says she didn’t plan to write this book — life just made her do it.

“After my last parent died, my family just fell apart,” she says. “We didn’t know what we were doing.”

Myers is throwing a launch party for friends at (where else?) Horan & McConaty funeral home.
